Bikes 4 Peace, our May 1st Winner!

On May 1st, Bikes 4 Peace, a program put on by the Syracuse Peace Council, won the $1,000 DISHES grant. Thanks to a rocking group of volunteers, Bikes 4 Peace sponsors free bike repair clinics for kids throughout the city of Syracuse.

The next bike assessment is scheduled for Thursday, 7/14 at 6 pm, SUNY EOC (100 New St., 2nd floor, Room 238).

The next repair clinic is slated for Saturday, 7/16. Details still to come about where that clinic will be held.

For more updates, and to check out what Bikes 4 Peace has planned for the rest of the summer, check out the group's Meetup site. There are some terrific resources on the site for cycling in Syracuse. Now that the city has announced its "complete streets" initiative, there's never been a better time to take up two wheels.

  1. If you're planning to compete or admire the sidewalk chalk art competition on July 30th, stop by Green Drinks at Prime Steakhouse afterward.

Green Drinks in July will be the last Saturday of the month from 5pm-7pm at Prime Steakhouse in Hanover Square as part of the BlueRain ECOfest.

Green Drinks Syracuse, the sustainability-focused happy hour, will take place at the BlueRain ECOfest Saturday, July 30th from 5-7pm. Hosted by 40 Below’s “It’s All Here” campaign, Syracuse First, the Sustainable Upstate Network (SUN), and Leadership Greater Syracuse, this Green Drinks brings together green businesses and residents interested in growing a green Central New York.

Green Drinks in July will be located at Prime Steakhouse (101 E Water St., Syracuse, NY 13202, (315) 299-8047). Small plates and a roasting station will be provided in the gorgeously renovated exposed brick interior at Prime. Come discuss the new Syracuse and people-watch on the patio. Local brew and drink specials will be on offer.

Blue Rain ECOfest in Hanover Square in downtown Syracuse takes place July 29-31st. The third year of the festival, located between the mega Northeast Jazz & Wine Festival and the giant Arts & Crafts festival, features booths promoting green businesses, technology, and environmentally-focused organizations, as well as educational programming for families in the City Hall Commons Atrium. Last year we witnessed alternative fuel vehicle test drives and rain barrel demonstrations. The restaurants that ring Hanover Square participate by offering locavore/seasonal menus.
